Girl Scouts College Essay

Girl Scouts was a big part of my life when I was young and it really helped prepare me for the future in some ways. I learned a lot about responsibility during our famous cookie sales. When we did our booth sales I got a lot of practice trying to make good sales. I was often told that I would make a great saleswoman which is a great skill to have when looking for a job. The camping trips helped me learn a little more about independence, responsibility, and respect. Camping without my parents there to tell me what to do was weird at first but it helped me learn to take care of myself better. I wasn’t very good at listening to anyone that wasn’t my mom or dad as a kid and the punishments I got for that while camping really helped me learn respect …show more content…
My troop decided to do some volunteer work at the shelter but there were too many of us so half of us sang while the other half worked and we did it in shifts. When we got there to start setting things up for dinner none of us expected it to be anything like what it turned out to be. When people started coming in to eat we helped serve their dinner and sang. There ended up being a lot more people there than I had initially expected and it was kind of sad. It made me realize how much I’ve got. I saw a few kids in there that were almost my age. Everyone there was so happy to listen to us sing and see us all in there helping. When we had finally ran out of songs to sing we just walked around and talked to people. It was a really amazing experience. Everyone was so happy despite how everything was for them. The majority of them were genuinely good people that had just got an unfortunate bit of bad luck. Since then I have been a lot more thoughtful of what other people go through and how fortunate I really am to have what I do have. This has also made me want to volunteer more when given the
