Cathy Song 's poem of “Girl Powdering Her Neck” depicts an imaginative idea and provides visual thoughts as to the woman in the picture. It explains the process a woman goes through to fulfill their needs. “She practices pleasure”(19) it allows you to comprehend that the poem is about a woman who is getting herself dolled up for the sake of her occupation which tends to be entertaining males. The woman is attempting to make herself alluring and tempting. She hones delight, she needs to offer joy to others, she needs to provide for the men not exactly herself. She is a generalized woman. The second poem and art piece I conceptualized is “Woman Before an Aquarium.” This masterpiece was known as an odalisque and put together by the talented Henri Matisse. He was a valued artist back in the twentieth century and used his advantage with colors. Based on my thought process, it seems to me this girl that’s sitting on the chair staring at the fishbowl is comparing or yet contrasting her life in the meantime.
