In the novel Girl in Pieces Kathleen Glasgow uses point of view, plot and symbolism to express the idea that the bravest thing people can do is continuing to live when they want to die.
Girl in Pieces is a book about a teenage girl, Charlie Davis who is struggling with mental health issues. In the beginning of the story Charlie is found in front of a hospital, naked and wrapped in a bed sheet. She was bleeding so badly from the cuts on her body that the bed sheet was drenched in blood and the snow was pure red. Charlie spends quite a bit of time admitted in a mental health hospital after this event takes place. After being in that program for quite awhile she gets the opportunity to leave.
