I found your post very interesting because Girl ended up being my least favorite piece of literature and while The Lottery was not my favorite I did enjoy it. I understand how Girl can be very difficult for someone who was treated that way by their mother. While I do understand this, I still could not understand the author's motive for writing this. It seemed cruel that she would write just to call attention to how she was mistreated. I understand how a relation to this story can bring greater appreciation to it though. Now it seems we have opposite opinions about these two pieces of fiction, because while I found the purpose behind Girl difficult to dispatcher I was able to understand the analogy being made in The Lottery right away.
