This passage vividly displays the difference in both spaces: the American express and the Queer Underground. David cleaning Giovanni’s room was his ill attempt to rid himself of the blackness that was taking over him due to his relationship with Giovanni, a Queer Underground rider. Even though David fights his submersion into the “Queer Underground”, it always hovers over him like a shadow. The shadow of homosexual blackness in Giovanni’s Room is visited by author, Richard R. Reid-Pharr in his journal article entitled, “Tearing the Goat’s Flesh: Homosexuality, Abjection, and the Production of a Late Twentieth-Century Black Masculinity.” Reid-Pharr quotes a portion of the first paragraph taken from the first chapter of Giovanni’s Room that…

When the word “home” is defined in a dictionary you are given definitions like “the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered” or “any place of residence or refuge” but to me home means so much more. To me, home is theatre. Those who know me well will attest that the change in me throughout this experience is drastic. Theatre transports me to places I couldn’t dream of otherwise and two years ago, I was taken to a place that would change my life forever and theatre transformed to the place I call home. Thoughts and ideas flooded my mind as I stepped into the off-green colored cafeteria.…

ReseCan we continue with the Great Australian Housing Dream or are there more sustainable options to support family wellbeing? This is important in Australia because of population growth, housing affordability and the impact of wellbeing on families. Research has shown that if we all want to keep living on quarter acreage blocks, there is not enough room for affordable housing and not having enough houses means that people and families can and will end up living on the streets. To make more housing, the government needs to approve developments that spread out into bushland and build estates with more spacious homes and yards with outdoor areas. As some research has shown people would be more likely to live in an estate if it was more spacious…
