Ginny: A Short Story

"Virginia Isabel Miller if you must be out of your bed this instance!" Mother called from downstairs. Ginny started out of bed, slipped and came tumbling to the ground. She rubbed her eyes and groaned. Could her mother not find a gentler way of waking her up? She rose to her feet and smoothed out her nightdress. She didn't want to get yelled at about that too.
"I am coming Mother!" she called, dashing out of her room, and running downstairs. What could Mother want so early in the morning? There were servants who could go to the store or to prepare the meals. She should not be needed right now.
"Oh Ginny dear, I have wonderful news! We are going to have company! Lavonia and Bella Kersey, Agatha and Lucy Winslow, and Hilda and Maud Jefferson

She remembered what Ben had said, that she should not spend time with her. It seems she was going to have no choice . Why was Mother so excited about torture?
"What about Lissy, Nelly, and Eddy? Where shall they be?"
"I have already gotten them out of the house so you need not worry about them. They shall not be bothering you. I wish that you had spent some time with Ms. Ecker before you enteratined guest, but it seems it is not meant to be that way. Now, hurry and go get dressed, I already sent Caroline," Caroline was one of the chamber maids, and Ginny's persoanl favorite, "up to your room to ready your clothes. Please do not whine, I have already had to listen to it from Blithe, I do not wish to hear it from you."
"Yes Mother dear," Ginny said, sulking up the stairs. Why did she have to endure this kind of torture? She would rather be outside, free and away from people.
As she headed upstairs, Ginny saw Blithe leaving from her room. Blithe shut the door with a dramatic sigh. She was clearly upset. She stood by the door for a moment, and slowly turned around. She smiled a little when she saw Ginny. "Mother told you the news as well," Blithe said, no hint of questioning in her

She struggled and struggled, trying to reach around her back, but she found she could not do it. She sighed and poked her head out her door, "Caroline!" she cried, hoping Caroline would hear her.
Caroline came out of Blithe's and Lottie's room and bounded down the hall, her red hair escaping her cap and bounding against her forehead. "What do you need?" she asked, smiling.
"Can you help me tie this blasted corset?" she asked, not pretending to be nice.
"Oh my! Your language is gastly!" Caroline cried out, her hands over her mouth. Ginny felt bad for a moment, before she realized that Caroline was kidding. She laughed as Caroline skipped into her room. "It's quite all right," she said, "I have four older brothers, I have heard quite worse words."
"I am glad I did not offend you. Can you help me with my corset?" Ginny asked, gesterly to the torture device.
"Of course," Caroline said, bouncing gleefully over to Ginny. Ginny noticed that Caroline did not walk, she bounced or skip, in a happy fluid motion. It made Ginny smile to see someone who was so
