Ginny: A Short Story

Improved Essays
As I walked in the forest I kept a sharp eye out for the figure who had been following me for the past week. Then I saw him; as usual, he was just a shadowy silhouette against the background. I tensed as I knelt to the ground, supposedly to tie my shoelaces.
I heard soft footsteps behind me. I whipped around, ready to finally confront the person who had been following me. "Ginny!" I gasped. "What the heck are you doing here?" I asked, desperately looking for the man.
"I saw you in the park, and I decided I’d try to scare you because you scared me yesterday, remember?" she said.
I sighed. Ginny was a simple-minded, blonde-haired, blue-eyed teenage girl.
"Becca, what's wrong?" she asked, "and before you say nothing, I know something's up."

Bimba breezed through the thick morning mist clinging to the Desolate Forest as quietly as a whisper. The light filtering through the narrow end of the valley made the fog look like iridescent cotton candy. Heavy drops of rain splashing on the dark green foliage sparkled, giving them the appearance of emeralds nestled in clouds of soft Egyptian cotton. Bimba maneuvered so the sun was behind him, shining in the eyes of the interlopers as they emerged into the small clearing. They could not see him watching their every move from beneath the lianas and ferns cloaked by the thick mist.…

The wind blew as the flame colored leaves fell from the tree and plummeted onto the ground. I could practically feel the seasons transitioning from summer to autumn as today happened to be known as "The Evil Haunted Shrub. " The evil haunted shrub was a name given to the forest that seemed to be one of the loneliest forest that still remained. Other than trees I considered it to be nearly empty, however the town considered it to be the deadliest forest around, especially the night before Halloween. I had always been quite interested in the mysterious aspects of life, so when I heard that tonight the forest would consist of such an evil, I had to scope it out.…

I didn't know what was wrong, but it felt like something was. A chill crawled down my spine, and I found myself picking up pace until I had broken out into a run, miraculously not stumbling on the uneven forest ground. I could tell I was getting closer to where I had left Beck because I could just about detect the baritone tone of his voice, carried towards me by the breeze. This alarmed me rather than comforted me; he was not alone.…

The weather was pleasant and warm, not excessively hot to the point where it would be uncomfortable sleeping. The birds tweeting almost as if they were singing outside and the children’s laughter made the day perfect. It all sounded so perfect and oh so soothing.
