Describe the decisions that lead you to share the particular books you chose as part of your presentation.
I decided to share Gingerbread Baby in class because it was my absolute favorite Jan Brett book growing up; I still remember it being read to me in elementary school and how fun it was! I also think that it truly showcases Jan Brett’s talent as a writer and as an illustrator.
I brought Armadillo Rodeo to share because it is one of the few books that is set in winter. So many of Jan Brett’s books are set in winter, but she does have several that are not, so I wanted to showcase the variety she offers in her books. Also, Armadillo Rodeo was not set in a European country (which almost all the ones I could get from the library were), so it helped showcase the variety in cultures that she writes and illustrates about.
I wanted to showcase her work and the variety she offers. Beauty and the Beast was one of the stories she retold and illustrated quite a while ago (1986?) and the pictures are a little bit darker and more muted …show more content…
Each of these books brings something unique and special to the table while still holding that quintessential Jan Brett story feeling. With these books I really wanted to highlight the animal main characters and the different settings; so many of Jan Brett’s books are set in a European country during the winter and while Berlioz the Bear is set in winter and in Europe, it feels like it is set in Germany without even having to look that up. Comet’s Nine Lives was set on the coast which is a setting that is not Europe or winter so I felt like it helped showcase the variety Jan Brett
