Achilles was mad at Hector for what he had done to his friend, he felt as if it was his fault that Hector had killed Patroclus. And after he killed him, he was so full of hate that he mutilated his body. When Beowulf Defeated Grendel it was because he had heard of the terror an it was like he wanted to become even more well known than he already was. Once Beowulf had killed Grendel, he also mutilated the body not by dragging his body through town, but he did rip off his arm as a gift for the Danes. Beowulf and Achilles are alike in ways but not in others. They both have superhuman, abilities but unlike Beowulf, Achilles half god aka demi-god. They both farewell known people in their stories. But it seems as if Beowulf plays his battles more by ear then Hercules. But that is only because Hercules was born and it ruined Hades plans. Which causes a lot to happen and then once he finally learned Zeus was his father he was to go to him and be told what to do next. But it makes Beowulf seem more interesting because you don't know what he's going to do next. Whereas Hercules is predictable because his life was mapped out from the start.
