Giles Cory In The Crucible

In the Bible Solomon writes, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy” (Proverbs 31:8-9). In The Crucible, Giles Corey and John Proctor stand up for what they believe is right and strictly stand by their beliefs and God’s will. They stand up against the court because they know the innocent are are giving in and confessing to things they are not guilty of for the sake of saving their own lives, and Gile and Proctor want to stand up for the truth. Instead of someone standing up for Proctor, Danforth goes against him and completely blames everything on him. In life very rarely does one person stand up for another. If one is busy trying to save him/herself one will do everything in his/her own power to bring another individual down in an attempt to raise themselves higher up. Humanity cannot rely on one another, not then and not now.Proctor didn’t rely on anyone else to stand up for him, he eventually takes a stand and stood up for himself. Humanity seems to always be too selfish to help save other, they only want to save themselves. “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute…” In the world humanity lives in, people are afraid to stand for one another because of the fear it will jeopardize their own lives, but every once in awhile, someone comes along who isn’t afraid. In The Crucible, Giles Cory and John Proctor aren’t afraid to take a stand. They stand for all the people giving into things they aren’t anywhere near guilty of.
