Now its purpose is to serve a global economy. With that end in mind, a large multinational corporation must build a competitive advantage in a worldwide market. A critical aspect becomes information control. It allows a company structure to keep track of its raw resources, supply chain, factory productivity, sales and customer review and feedback. Managing GII is a key component in supporting business goals and strategic plans. If the internet is an information superhighway, the GII infrastructure is the base to build the roadway. The rocky base of the roadway on which the pavement can be laid needs to include “seven key building blocks: people, agents, communications media, information providers, communications network, bridges, and database” (Gray, 1996).
