Have you ever sacrificed your possessions for a loved one in your life? The short story, "The Gift of The Magi," by O. Henry is an amazing short story about love and sacrifice between a couple. A Sir, named Jim, and a madam, named Della. Both made sacrifices in this short story by giving up the possessions they value most in their relationship. Sacrifice in this short story is shown by a couple giving up their most valuable possessions for each other. Della and Jim used all of their money to buy presents for each other, sacrifice is loving someone with all of his/her heart so strongly that you give up possessions that you love, for that other person so that they will be happier. Sacrifice is vital to human life and proves you are willing to make decisions that may not be in your best interest but are for the good of others.

One of the morals in,"The Gift of The Magi," is sacrificing money. Both of the characters are a husband and wife and they live in poverty. There poverty is shown throughout the story by them having to scrap and save everything they can to get each other gifts for Christmas. The author wrote, "Three times Della counted it. One dollar

In the short story, "The Gift of The Magi," Della does everything for Jim. She sacrifices all of her love and possessions for Jim by cutting off her hair and purchasing Jim a present because she loves him more than she loves her hair. Della says," I had my hair cut off and sold it because I couldn't have lived through Christmas without giving you a present." (Page4.) Much like Della does for him, Jim does everything in his life for Della. He uses all his money, time, and effort for Della because he loves her. Both Della and Jim love each other very much and that's why they give up everything they own to make each other happy. They love each other with all the love that each of them posses.
