Overall, If I was faced with this situation again I would make sure that I had more knowledge on showering a patient and with having more knowledge on the situation I would be more prepared. I will do this by keeping learning the principles of the code of conduct, making sure I am within my scope of practice (Nursing Council of New Zealand, 2012).
The last step of the Gibbs reflective cycle (The Mind Tools editorial team, 2017) is my action plan. As, I have previously identified the areas I need to work on, which are having more knowledge and experience on a showering before shower a patient and being prepared for all situations. I will be using a range of resources to develop my learning and to improve the standard of care I will be providing.
In conclusion, my overall experience on showering Mrs. R was good, as it has pointed me in the direction of what I don’t know and need to. It has also shown why it is important to be prepared with knowledge and with experience for all situations. The Gibbs reflective cycle (New Zealand Nurses Organisation, 2015) has provided me with a great way of reflecting over any experience to help identify the positives and the negatives, in a way to provide the best nursing care
