Giants Ridge, a ski resort in northern Minnesota. At giants ridge there's two bunny hills, the only difference between the two is one is just a little bit taller than the other. The magic carpet is the one this observation essay is about. When walking up to the magic carpet there's a belt driven conveyor that carries you up the hill. At the beginning of the conveyor there are three signs that say, leave ski poles here, do not move around on the lift because you may fall, then the lift operator has to stop the lift help that person up and restart. With that everyone else that's on that lift is waiting because one kid didn’t follow the rules. The third sign says that all snowboarders

they either don’t acknowledge the sign or they just don’t see it. I don’t know how they miss the sign its big yellow and has red lettering. When the snowboarders get on almost all of them that get on for the first time that day have only one foot strapped in. As they come down the hill to the beginning again, they nevermind to unstrap a foot and when they get to the top of the hill where they get off since both feet are strapped in they can't move, but hop and they end up falling and making a road block so everyone else that's coming up run into the person that falls down. When kids or even some adults start moving they tend to lose their balance and fall over making the operator stop the lift. Sometimes they can get up with ease but sometimes the operator will have to run down and help the person up and then restart …show more content…
The safety gate is a black board that rotates backward and when it moves back far enough it will shut down the lift. So that’s why they say to leave the skiers ski poles at the bottom because they will let them sit on the conveyor until they get off and it then hits the gate, shutting down the lift. A lot of times heavier skiers and snowboarders will trigger it as well. When snowboarders hold onto their board when they come up the operator will have them walk off before the gate to prevent them from stepping on it. Some snowboarders instead of putting their unstrapped foot on the stomp pad they will step on the belt, which is fine, but they forget to lift their foot up when they get off, setting off the safety

A raised slab of pavement stretches in front of the entry porch's stairs to aid in a smoother ascent to the apartment from the parking lot ground. Next to this piece of pavement lies a flat lawn. Here, a half dead green velvet boxwood rests centrally against the eastern wall of apartment unit four. During the winter season, truck plows heap an enormous amount of snow from the parking lot into this yard. The snow pile can reach up to half a story high.…

On the above date and time I was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Ridge Road and Formel Avenue. While traveling West on Ridge Road, I observed a teal colored, 4 door Saturn traveling directly in front of my patrol vehicle. I could observe the male driver's seat belt buckle dangling over his left shoulder. I had a clear, unobstructed view directly through the untinted back window of the vehicle. I provided dispatch with the vehicle's FL tag (238TAW), and advised that I would be conducting a traffic stop before activating my emergency lights and sirens.…

It didn’t make it any better that I was beyond tired. Dragging my feet as I walked, eyes barely open, I was a living zombie. The sun burnt into my eyes worse than a death stare from a hungry gray wolf, in some spots it was like a harsh winter evening, and sometimes if you moved ten feet you would start to sweat a waterfall and would have to move back to the shade. It wasn’t a good day for my service project. Especially with the fact that it was at the end of the week, and I had just gotten off a bone chilling first guide in Fort Mackinac.…

The anticipation of getting to this golden treasure was growing with every step I took, every crunchy step. When we finally arrived, I stared down my opponent, the hill, as I mounted my trusty steed, my snow boogie, and cautiously eased my way onto the decline, lightly brushing the snow with my hands for steering. It was a bumpy ride, but I felt like I was riding first class. My routine began to seem rather basic after a while until the hardcore snow fans started to show up. These are the ones who make ramps out of snow.…

Finally, I had reached to top of Mount McGinnis with is another name for the Mendenhall Glacier. Above all, I was speechless and the view was breathtaking. Notably, I could see the crystal blue glacier below me and the rushing Nugget Falls waterfall was to my right. Markedly, 3,200 feet below me was also a crystal clear lake that was so still it looked as if it were glass. I could hear the birds chirping as they were flying above me…

The hoodies and gloves flooded back on as the bitter cold atmosphere became evident, but the thin-light jackets weren’t enough to obstruct the frosty wind. Hail came with the blasting wind, stinging my oh-so-cold face and soaking my frenzied hair. Only the summit lies ahead, a monument of fear, casting doubt in my head. Hands frozen, the tips of my fingers purple from the combination of cold temperatures and sharp rocks, I stopped. Just below the monstrous pile of frozen stones sits a small valley with small trees, a sure harbor from the cold.…

The thought of accidentally dropping my poles enters my mind as I observe lost items in the snow below. As we ascend, more of the slope enters my field of vision. At first, the skiers and snowboarders in my view move at a leisurely pace as they reach the bottom; but as altitude increases, so does the skill and speed of the people coming down. The added elevation diminishes the number of trees providing protection from the bitter wind that starts hitting us like pins and needles. I pull my bandanna up and fit my goggles to the shape of my helmet, in an attempt to block out the frigid breeze.…
