Stereolepis gigas reproduce asexually. Although the reproduction process for the Giant sea bass has not really been observed in the field, one study showed that when born, there is 2-20 fish. When impregnated, it only takes 3 months for the female to produce up to 60,000,000 eggs. The spawning period is between the months of July and September. After the eggs are laid, they swell up and absorb water, become buoyant, and float up to the surface. When hatched, the eggs the larvae drift and feed on plankton for a month until the sink and start their juvenile phase. There is no parental involvement with the eggs after they are laid.
