This year, an estimated 273 people will die from drowning. That’s about the same as the current giant panda population. And each year, we will continue to lose anywhere from 250 to 350 people; as the graph on my right indicates. There is a weak association between this data, meaning that each year, deaths aren’t decreasing, like in an ideal world; despite the variety of campaigns each summer, urging us to ‘be safe around water’. Obviously, this issue isn’t just going to go away and we can't continue to do anything to address it if we want to decrease the death toll. So how can we prevent this?
