These are pictures of the current situation in Detroit. What ones was a flourishing city is now a city in decay. Abandoned houses, buildings, churches and so on. For the production of all the cars who were demanded by large amounts many employees were needed. That was the main cause of the enormous increase of the population. She wants to make it more favourable to live there. She wants to do this by creating jobs ,invest in the town not only socially but also economically . I'm going to approach it from a demographic perspective.
But what can be done best to prevent the emergence of a ghost town?
We can place asylum seekers in vacant houses and buildings. In that way we can solve multiple problems
Since world war II the world is facing the highest number of displaced people ever. 4.4 million people applied for asylum in 44 industrialized countries between 2013 and 2016. Why would you place all those asylum seekers in camps and in asylum seekers centres when you can also place them in empty offices, shops, churches, houses or in other real estate
Argument 1
As people will be living in the houses and buildings it will prevent the city from decaying.
Argument 2
As the number of asylum seekers is still increasing and the asylum seekers centres are slowly reaching its capacity of people. Instead of investing in building new asylum seekers centres, a better solution would be to place the asylum seekers in the vacant buildings and houses. As there will be more people in the village or city the economy is most likely to increase. When more people are living in village it is more attractive for companies to locate their businesses there, what means that the number of jobs available will increase. Most likely this will mean that people will move back and it will stop the emergence of a ghost town.
Argument 4
It will also improve the progress of the integration of the asylum seekers. In the asylum seekers centres they are only surrounded by other asylum seekers. This will in some degree withheld them from learning the native language. However when they live along with the native inhabitants of that village the integration will go much faster as they see how native inhabitants live and what their culture is like. Furthermore is will also improve their progress of learning the language as there are more opportunities to interact with the native inhabitants.
My partners solution will only stop the emergence of ghost towns. Whereas my solution will not only stop the emergence of ghost towns it will also solve the problem where to accommodate asylum seekers. Thank
