If you keep thinking ‘I can not do this’ you will not achieve anything but, the moment when you think ‘I can do this’, changes will be made and goals will be achieved. Martin had the odds of being able to communicate again stacked against him, but no matter how many failed attempts, he never gave up which ultimately led him to achieve his goal of being able to communicate again.
“Do they really think that a limited intellect means a child can’t feel viciousness in a person’s touch or hear anger in the tone of their voice?” This quote from Martin is very emotional and was said after his mother told him she wished he would die, not knowing Martin could in fact hear everything that was said to him. After Martin was diagnosed, his mother struggled with depression and tried to take her own life. She took her anger out about Martin’s condition out on Martin. No one knew Martin could hear what was being said and he was forced to endure and take all his mother’s angry words. Even after all he encountered, he still chose to stay hopeful. This really inspires me because if my mother ever said to me she wanted me dead and I knew I was the reason she tried to take her own life, I do not think I would be able to go on, but, Martin continued to go on by thinking
