In the year of 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected as our 16th President of the United States. His four year term was during the Civil War. Before he was elected President, he was a lawyer and served in the House of Representatives. However, at the time of his presidency, he was not very liked by the people. They thought he was a bad president but now many individuals view Abraham Lincoln as one of the best. President Lincoln was also against slavery which led to the Emancipation Proclamation that later on, freed slaves. The Gettysburg Address was a very famous speech that was given by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. The purpose of the speech was to honor and remember all the soldiers that died during the Civil War.
