Team Of Rivals

The Civil War, a time that determined the independence and survival of the Union for the Confederacy. This particular war began in 1861 and lasted until 1865, many events occurred during these years. I read through three websites with tons of information over the Civil War soldiers, Gettysburg Address speech and Team of Rivals. The life of soldiers during the Civil War was quite interesting. Their life on camp had differences with Officers and Enlisted Men, one having more freedoms than the other. Officers were allowed much more freedom and comfort when living in the tents. Camp had one or two Officers per tent and even had the luxury of furniture unlike the enlisted men. There is two different ranking in Officers, Higher and Junior. Higher …show more content…
Goodwin wrote all about the relationship Abraham Lincoln had with his cabinet. While reading I got a closer look inside Abraham’s personality and how he did while being the sixteenth president. According to Goodwin, Abraham had emotional strengths that would most likely be emotional intelligence today. While he was going about to bring his cabinet of rivals together he had different emotions. Abraham would sometimes write hot letters, where he would write down everything he wanted to say when he was frustrated and wouldn’t stop until he was calmed down. Once calm, he would write down never sent and never signed on the letter. I found this technique of Abrahams very smart and a good stress reliever. I could not imagine dealing with a group of people who would often tear each other up during meetings and be in the middle of that madness. Also, he would be kind and sensitive to the cabinet. Goodwin discussed how Abraham was excellent at creating good relationships with the men by conducting special time with one from time to time.
