In particular, the salary negotiations. However, I grew up in France, a country where salary and money are taboos, and I never felt comfortable talking about it. Even so, this book gave me an inside how to negotiate the starting salary. Since I am uncomfortable with this topic, this advice will be one of the best takeaways. In fact, the tools we discovered in class to track industry average salaries, will help me to prepare myself to this question.
Finally, one key advice that I applied recently is to connect with everybody I’ve ever worked with on LinkedIn. “LinkedIn will be a lifeline for your next job”. In fact, this is true since I found one of my previous internship thanks to one of my LinkedIn contacts.
To conclude, a student has to be prepared in order to navigate efficiently through the job market and secure its dream job. Don Raskin delivers in his book, all the “dirty little secrets” that needs to be considered in order to stand out. However, students always need to consider what is their career goal in order to be efficient in their job search. As students, I believe we tend to listen more closely to former employers so this book looks like a great coach for students. I hope this guidance will help me in the following months in order to find my dream
