The immense costs of physical activities have made many districts conclude that they should be spending their money on better education rather than sports. According to an article by Amanda Ripley, “New bleachers can cost half a million dollars” (11). Premont Independent School District stated that they saved more than 150,000 dollars in just one year without sports (Ripley, 11). This evidence supports the idea that investing money in athletic program is a struggle for almost every school and the money being used should go to a better academic system for their students. An article by Amanda Ripley states, “Player’s spend long hours practicing, and that commitment extends to the rest of the school- from late-night brand practices and pep rallies to meetings with parents” (11). Student’s focus particularly drifts away from learning throughout the tough football season (Ripley, 11). This illustrates that sports are interfering with academic skills during the class time given because athletes are possibly thinking about the big game later instead of other educational topics. For this reason, districts should cancel out all physical and extracurricular activity to save students from getting drawn away from
