The New Deal didn't stop with the Depression, but actually gave some Americans security. It also increased presidential power. This is a time when Americans were looking to the president for guidance and answers. This is when he came up with a plan and implemented it. Whether or not it fixed everything, it changed perspectives on what Americans expect from their president. For my life it has changed the way I do banking whether I realize it or not. From the depression came the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation - FDIC, a long lasting government corporation that is there to provide stability and trust that our money will be "safe". My great-grandparents lived through the Depression and until my great-grandmother passed away you could tell that she had lived through it and struggled. If her and my great-grandpa were finished eating dinner and there was only one bite left, she would put it in a container for later. She never wasted anything. She wouldn't waste food or clothes, she grew her own food, and she even made sure that everything was done before she would let out her dishwater. She hung her clothes out to dry and was very frugal to say the least. I do feel this still impacts our family because we were all taught to be the same way. It has been passed down from generation to generation. We are all very thrifty, we know not to be wasteful, and she would be very disappointed if we ever took advantage of something we were fortunate enough to
