Review of "Get Rich or Die Tryin '" the movie. "Get Rich or Die Tryin '" has been the subject of my essays over the past two weeks. This week I am reviewing the film and making a distinction of the intended audience of the movie.
On the surface, it would appear that the movie is attempting to reach the masses with a very entertaining story, packed with drama and action. However, upon closer observation, and depending on who is reviewing the movie, it can be concluded that the movie was produced with the intention to appeal to individuals who are from a similar demographic.
The movie eulogizes Curtis '50 Cent ' Jackson as most people writing their own story would like to depict themselves; an eventual successor (a hero). It is common knowledge that in our present time, especially in

A closer look at the background of a majority of these aspiring rap artists will likely reveal similarities to that of 50 Cent 's. That said, it is safe to say that these people are the intended audience of the movie. This brings me to the second part of my essay. The strength and weakness of the movie are the dual and contradicting messages it conveys. The movie gives us an entertaining yet realistic view of the unsavory life and dangerous occupation of a drug dealer; how it ultimately does not pay considering the risks versus the reward. A quote from a review of the movie on rogerebert.com (2005) reads, "If you would add up all the time spent standing around, it was minimum wage. If you added prison time, it was below minimum wage." "Wanted" is basically from a comic book that has limited series written by Mark Miller and J.G Jones, it is about an amoral protagonist (Wesley Gibson) who is discovered as the heir of super assassin. Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov, he is the cream of the crop, he turns this comic into a movie that make the viewers not sit still and make their adrenaline and cortisone levels spike with the actions. Bekmambetov used the similar style of shots and angles with his previous movie, Night watch. It's more to wide angle (long shot), so we can see the terrifying background like one of the scenes in the torture room, where Wes has been beaten up by the butcher. Not even that, there are many special effects that Bekmambetov applies in this movie, like slow-motion with sound effects that certainly provides that "ouch" reaction from audiences.…

Journal Entry The movie “A Time to Kill” is similar to the classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” as a white lawyer is defending an innocent African American man, but the predominantly white jury is the only obstacle that both men have of getting freedom and receiving true justice. The ending is where the two break apart as Carl Lee Hailey is pronounced innocent and gets to live, while Tom Tom Robinson ( still at court but believes that Atticus will fail) dies while trying to escape prison. Both the novel and film depicts how the justice system in the south is not fair as the jury cannot see beyond the skin colour of the accused. I believe that the actions that Carl Lee Hailey did was justified as the two rapists Billy Ray Cobb and Pete…

The Article, Musing New Hoods, discusses an important and conflicting discussion about the opportunities that are available to African Americans. These stereotypes conceived through films and hip-hop music create the identity and character through an authentic representation that is expected of African-Americans in modern culture. Although African-American movies and the hip-hop music industry have worked to build and identify a culture through the art form of media and music the industry has created a stereotypical image-- a different inner struggle has resulted.…
