Get A Knife, Get Rid Of Guns By Molly Ivins: Article Analysis

In the article “Get a Knife,Get a dog, but Get Rid of Guns” by Molly Ivins was written in 2005. She begins her point point of view on gun control at the beginning of her first paragraph when she says “I am not anti-gun”(384), but she seems like she wants to ban all guns. The author isn’t making herself clear if she is pro-gun or anti-gun. Ivins talks about a group called the militia, who are part of the military force, and says they are the only ones who should have the right to bear arms. I do however agree with Ivins about how cars are just as dangerous as guns are, but they aren’t getting banned anytime soon. Throughout the article Ivans bounces around from being pro-gun to anti-gun. She seems as if she can’t make up her mind if she is for guns or against them. But we haven’t outlawed cars yet”(385). Everyday people die from car accidents because it was simply just an accident or people drink and drive and kill other people or they are on drugs. These things happen all the time, yet you don’t see cars getting banned from people. Even though people do die from car accidents everyday, you still see people driving, and that's how people are going to be with guns as well. People die from guns every day or get injured, but that's not going to make people stop using guns. If citizens actually kept track to who they sold their guns to, and made sure they were old enough, and had clean background, than I don’t think we would have that many issues with guns. But somehow along the way from year to year guns are getting easier for bad people to get, and that's what we need to put a stop
