Gertrude Hamlet Research Paper

Hamlet might have been Gertrude’s son, but the truth is that Gertrude wasn’t on his side. After King Hamlet, her previous husband, passed away, she saw things differently. Gertrude was on Claudius’ side, she didn’t care much for Hamlet at all ever since she married the new King. Gertrude married Claudius. She didn’t seem to mention the death of King Hamlet in the story at all. She only married his brother, King Claudius. Hamlet was very sad about his Father’s death and didn’t like Claudius whatsoever. Hamlet even saw the ghost of his father, informing him that it was Claudius who had committed the murder. Claudius was the one who killed his Father. Saying that Claudius committed the murder, made her believe that more. Specially after he killed Polonius. Gertrude started believing he was dangerous. She even started crying for help. She believed that Hamlet, her own son, was going to kill her. All Hamlet really wanted was for her to understand what her new husband did. The secret he denied to tell anyone. The secret he was hiding from his new family. Gertrude ignored everything her real family was telling her. She was putting herself at risk, if Hamlet were telling the truth, which he was, then that would mean she was married to a murderer, a man who murdered her ex-husband. She would be siding with a greedy man who only wanted money and power. That was what led her to her death. In the end, Gertrude wasn’t all that good of a person. She picked Claudius’ side. She betrayed Hamlet. The truth really is that Gertrude was scared and ashamed of King Hamlet’s death, and didn’t want to loose another husband.
