Also Petey had been to the restaurant before so why would they refuse to serve them and even kick them out.…

Life in the 1960’s was a lot different than what it is in today’s world, especially in the southern states. The 1960’s was a time when the United States was switching from segregation to desegregation. For some towns desegregation was no problem at all and others not so much. Some towns needed the different race to prove that they were just as good for them to be accepted, and in a small town in southern Louisiana a winning football season would be the only thing that could do that. Call Me By My Name by John Ed Bradley told in Rodney’s point of view is a book about three friends Tater, who was an , Rodney and Angie, that despite of the towns opinion became the best of friends in a time when the town was not willing to accept different races mingling with one another.…

Released in 2000 and produced by Walt Disney Pictures (and Jerry Bruckheimer Films), Remember the Titans is a sports film dramatization of the true story of Coach Herman Boone, who was an integral part of the 1971 integration of T.C. Williams High School (and consequently, its football program). Naturally (due both to the close proximity to the Civil Rights movement, and to the setting of Virginia), this was a highly controversial change that was met with opposition both externally from the community, and internally, from both black and white athletes. While the foundation of the story is based in reality (as are many of its plot points, like the Titans concluding the ’71 season with a 13-0 record, linebacker Gerry Bertier’s paralysis, etc.), it goes without saying that many details were embellished, or sensationalized,…

It is evident that it is human nature for conflict to arise out of power imbalances. Ian McEwan, author of Enduring Love, would agree with this as he also presents power in this manner. Power motivates characters, such as Joe, to compete to gain power igniting a chain of conflicts, both individually, and within relationships. Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South also sees conflict arising out of power imbalances, although it mostly develops to become a positive force, particularly in relationships…
