It is important to study gerontology because it makes us understand the older adults better and to appreciate the subject of aging studies/gerontology in general, there must be a commitment to create a multidisciplinary overview for all to understand the aging process across diverse groups of individuals (taking into account race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, etc.). It’s an extraordinary documentary about the friendship between two activist elders in a Los Angeles retirement community for political progressives. Irja and Lucille were very active women like millions of other retired women who live alone, they devoted so much of their lives to protest against social injustice, they spend much of their time interacting with other residents and staff. One of the strengths of Sunset Story is that it introduces us to a pair of extraordinary women who have kept their dignity and independence in a world that conspires against them having either.
