Living by this code is a constant theme in the epic of Beowulf, author unknown. Beowulf’s structure of three separate parts, each featuring Beowulf and his battles, demonstrates how each part is a challenge in which the Germanic Heroic code is tested. The first scene in which Beowulf displays the Germanic Heroic code of having a good reputation is when he replies back to Unferth’s questioning.
