In the book the “German Genius” by Peter Watson, two series of events are documents that’s takes the works of several scientist and connects them to increasing importance of science in Germany as well as Germany’s growth as an economic power. One enzyme for the growth of science in Germany is shown in chapter 18 called the Rise of the Laboratory: Siemens, Hofmann, Bayer, Zeiss. This chapter follows the chain reactions of how cheaper purple dye allowed the production of aspirin all the way to the construction of the microscope making business. First Alfred Krupp also known as a “Cannon King” was a major contributor to the metal business especially in the field of war weapons. As a result of the revolution, Alfred Krupp ruled the German’s industries; however, when the stock market crashed in Germany Krupp lost everything and died a year after. The second man that had a great influence on German’s metal industries was Karl Benz. His knowledge of what a car engine should consist of allowed him the insight to to create a vehicle that greatly resembles the construction of what a car is today. Daimler perfected Benz’s idea, which caused him to be award for the first fast-running engine. Another German influenced man that added a great deal to the automotive business in Germany was Rudolf Diesel. He established that diesel engine that was greatly different than other engines due to the way it would start. The last individual Peter Watson talks about it Rathenau.
