Gerda And Anne Frank Comparison Essay

“From every word there is a scar, and from every scar there is a story. A story that says, ‘I survived’”- Craig Scott. More than 11 million Jews were involved in the Holocaust. From that 11 million, less than 200,000 lived to see 1950. Two recorded accounts are The Diary of Anne Frank and Gerda Weissmann Klein. Many such as Anne Frank were separated from their families then died from disease, labor, or the gas chambers used by the Nazi’s. Others like Gerda were “fortunate” enough to live through the concentration camps. Each story may have their similarities or differences yet both bare the scars left behind by the Holocaust. The few survivors of the Holocaust still alive today are scattered all over the world. Gerda fled with her husband, Kurt Klein, to Buffalo, NY. Gerda and Anne share many similarities from their time before and during the war. Like Anne Frank, Gerda recorded her experiences during WWII titled All But My Life. Gerda Weissmann Klein and The Diary of Anne Frank will live on to educate students in the future on the Holocaust. Anne was never able to see her book, The Diary of Anne Frank, be published and read whereas Gerda was able to with her book, All But My Life. Another difference, Gerda was moved to a ghetto when discovered in hiding then moved to a concentration camp while Anne and the others in the secret annex were immediately separated then sent to concentration camps. Gerda and her mother were separated early on whereas Anne, Margot, and Mrs. Frank stayed together for a while before Mrs. Frank was selected for the gas chambers. Fact: Mrs. Frank would escape the gas chambers with a friend then then eventually die of starvation. Gerda and Anne each fought valiantly to survive but unfortunately had opposite results between the
