On July 14, 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska, Leslie Lynch King, Jr. was born to his abusive father, Leslie Lynch King, and his mother, Dorothy Ayer Gardner. Two weeks after his birth, his parents divorced and him and his mother moved to Grand Rapids, MI. While in Grand Rapids, his mother met a businessman named Gerald R. Ford. Dorothy and Gerald soon got married. Gerald was immediately nicknamed “Jerry” Ford and in 1935 officially changed his name to Gerald R. Ford Jr. Gerald was a successful athlete throughout his life ((1)Greene). He received a scholarship to the University of Michigan where he majored in economics and political science. Ford graduated with a B.A. degree in June of 1935. After Michigan, he attended Yale Law School. There, he earned

    One thing I found interesting about this reading, was how King opens his chapter with the genealogy of the “mystical” and exposes epistemologies of Western blindness and assumption.
