Georgia Tech Moneythink Essay

Georgia Tech Moneythink is a local chapter of the national organization Moneythink. Moneythink is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to restore economic health in the United States using financial and career education by training interested and motivated college volunteers to serve as mentors and role models to low and middle income high school students. The program is a 21 week program that focuses on giving high school students the decision making power and knowledge to take on real-world financial situations that they will eventually have to face. (Maybe put in examples of curriculum). The curriculum consists of weekly hour and a half classroom meetings with our students that consists of mentors being assigned a group of 3-5 students for the entire curriculum to ensure enough personal attention and relationship building to the students. An innovative way of making the lessons relevant outside of the classroom is through the use of the Moneythink Mobile app which is a way for the mentors to hold the mentees accountable by giving the mentees …show more content…
The program within Georgia Tech is in conjunction with Georgia Tech’s Excel Program, a program at Georgia Tech for students with mild intellectual and developmental disabilities. (Describe the Program a Bit). The second program, with Cristo Rey Atlanta High School, is a mentoring program with freshman. The program consists of mentors having a group of 3-4 mentees, to ensure a more personal connection with the mentors and mentees, and instilling the Moneythink principles to the mentees in addition to providing relevant examples to the mentees through the mentors past experiences, having social events with the mentees and providing career advice to the mentees. The program takes place in the Georgia Tech Business school and we currently have a trip to the SunTrust bank in downtown
