I just earned my AA in Biology this past December. I have a small break right now because I have a full scholarship at Tuskegee University and it starts in the fall, so basically I am using this break to prepare myself for the MCAT and volunteer at hospitals. Before I go to Tuskegee University, doing research will be an important step to my future. It will allow me to use all the skills I have learned and share it with people in the scientific field and do more research. My main goal through all of this is to help the community and to be one of the vital elements in the advancement of the chemical and medical fields.…

One of the reasons I decided to attend Stony Brook was its esteemed academic community. iGEM will be an opportunity to collaborate with other students driven to pursue a career in scientific inquiry. Participating in research will enable me to grow academically and socially; I will be able to meet new people: professors, students, both at Stony Brook and around the world, and medical professionals.…
I believe that the University of Georgia Honors Program would open up countless doors for me throughout my UGA career, and it would allow me to thrive and contribute to a smaller environment of more dedicated and passionate students. Coming from a small, very academically advanced private school, I am very familiar with and fond of this type of environment. I also believe that my high school experience, in such a unique and diverse school, would allow me to contribute greatly to the honors community. The Honors Program’s access to smaller class sizes would allow me to be in closer contact with my teachers, something that I benefited from greatly in high school.…

Through the lens of I patient I experienced a small part of the medical world and saw what medical professionals are able to provide to their clients. From allowing a senior to play her senior year of sports to helping a middle age man walk without pain for the first time in years. My great interest in science can be linked to my multiple knee surgeries. Through medicine I hope to help and contribute positively to society. Notre Dame with its impressive research department and intensive academic program excites me because I know I will be pushed to reach not only my full academic goals but my personal goal of helping others.…
Many students are excited to embark upon the journey of entering and completing college. It offers rewarding opportunities such as the ability to study a range of disciplines and explore and develop ones interest and hobbies. College is also a place where one becomes more independent and take responsibility for their actions and themselves. Upon entering college, I expected this to be my faith, but I found the college I attended did not meet my needs as a student. Frequently, it was as though the world was passing by as I stood still, unsure of what to do.…

This helps me attain my predetermined purpose because I need to be prepared and be ready to interact with a lot of students in medical school. According to two students that are currently attending Portland State, Portland State has cutting-edge technology in their chemistry facilities, and the professors advocate students to collaborate in order to complete a lab (Lai & Lai). Similarly, Harvard contains a profusion of buildings that “are used exclusively for scientific research. They offer interconnected labs, clusters, and offices designed to…
As a resident of Georgia, I have always considered Emory in the horizon of my “backyard”. I have been a previous patient of Emory for parathyroid surgery, and my mother is currently a patient there as well for her thyroid cancer condition. Visiting Emory, I was able to see and experience firsthand how well Emory treats its patients, faculty, and its students. I found the culture of Emory warm and inviting. I want to become a physician-scientist because I want to work at the interface between basic science research, which has the power to elucidate new knowledge, and clinical medicine, which has the ability to translate scientific discoveries to a deliverable form that can directly help the patients in need. For three years, I studied the role of tumor microenvironment on breast cancer metastasis in Dr. Semenza’s laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. As I studied the role of Hypoxia-inducible factor on integrin expression and subsequent cell motility, I learnt that cancer is a multi-faceted disease that consists of a web of multiple biological mechanisms as well as other arenas of science. Having exposed myself to…
