Georgia Honors Program

I believe that the University of Georgia Honors Program would open up countless doors for me throughout my UGA career, and it would allow me to thrive and contribute to a smaller environment of more dedicated and passionate students. Coming from a small, very academically advanced private school, I am very familiar with and fond of this type of environment. I also believe that my high school experience, in such a unique and diverse school, would allow me to contribute greatly to the honors community. The Honors Program’s access to smaller class sizes would allow me to be in closer contact with my teachers, something that I benefited from greatly in high school. This personal relationship with faculty would allow me to grow and learn in close contact to these mentors who both exemplify my goals as a student and push me mature in both intelligence and as a person. I believe that this more intimate connection with faculty who support and challenge me would motivate me to improve and also give me excellent role models to aim towards. Through the special study abroad options and service opportunities offered through Honors Program, I would continue to expand …show more content…
The diverse community where I have spent my last four years has allowed me to appreciate the importance of listening to and respecting differing opinions and ideas. I learned and grew over the years in a community of people who were so different from me. My small grade of forty alone consisted of Muslims, Sikhs, Atheist, Jewish People, Black Muslims, Buddhists, Asian Americans, Korean Americans, and all kinds of awesome people. Over the years, I have learned how to respectfully offer my opinion and listen to those of others. This high school experience sets me apart from many other students, and gives me the ability to thrive in an environment like The Honors Program and the

I Kate Cummings and I Ava Durham would like to bring up the idea of bringing honors classes back to O’leary Middle School. Honors classes have many uses for students. They are challenging and give students an environment where kids want to learn and have similar interests. They also are a great way to help students think about careers that would include their academic achievements.…

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to learn about two experiences that are offered by the Honors Program. Mrs. McCollum, Feaster, and Guider talked to forum about the International Studies trip to Costa Rica and Bridgewater, England. Even though I am not able to take part of the experiences now, but the advantages that come from the trip will make me strive to take part of a study abroad program before I graduate from any college. Advantages that they all talked about were trying new things, building resume, testing boundaries, learning about myself, and seeing the world. Trying new things and seeing the world are two that can be cross out when preparing for a trip overseas because I never flown on a plane and never gone to another place…

I would like to enrich my experience at FGCU by becoming engaged in an organization that promotes a sense of community and the enrichment of personal qualities beyond that of which are typically required when obtaining a degree. Involvement in the honors program would enrich my academic experience by allowing me to engage in opportunities such as research with a faculty member, presenting an academic paper, applying for scholarships, or publishing research. I believe I could contribute to the honors community by providing a creative and unique approach to academic pursuits. As a music therapy major, I thrive off of creative solutions and digging into the “why” of topics and issues.…

In the Honors Program at the University of North Alabama, I plan to take the steps in order to fulfill my greatest dreams. With my passion for learning and my experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, I would be a good fit for the Honors Program. Throughout high school, I explored new ways to teach and learn various academic disciplines. I created a math competition club at our high school and volunteered at a Mathcounts club at our middle school, in order to help teach students mathematical concepts. I also pursued learning outside of my school, by participating in an internship at NIST. In addition, by being a member of the IB program, I believe I have gone through a program that mirrors what the Honors Program describes.…

Man is a social animal and most people like to have some type of community involvement. It could be in the form of community service or being part of a club or group that share similar interests. Having community involvement is a vital characteristic for someone applying to the honors program. I believe the honors program wants students to go out into the real world and learn about different cultures, which is why it has a mandatory study abroad program. The objective of these trips is to provide students with an array of experiences, so when students start working on their research paper they have had enough experiences to know their interests.…

Students come to college with different expectations of their experience in the Honors Program; some might wear their “honors status” as a badge, some might hope to challenge themselves academically, and some might anticipate living in a community of academic-oriented students and making strong friendships. In talking to students, I have found that many might have chosen to attend UConn because the Honors Program was a reconciliation factor in not being able to afford a more prestigious university or not getting admitted to a top-choice school. The reality of the situation is that being in the Honors Program does not make one student any different than another. Students who are not members of the Honors Program might view Honors students as elitists or the program as a distinct entity, “Critics of the honors program…say this division between ‘regular’ and ‘honors’ students should not exist” (Knudsen, 2011). Honors Programs do an excellent job of offering students unique opportunities and intellectually stimulating coursework, but they do not change the student on an individual level to the extent that there should be a divide in Honors and non-Honors students, as some might…

If I’m going to succeed the way I want to be able to, college is a time where I have to make connections, learn outside the borders of the typical classroom, and take courses that challenge me not only as a student but as a person. To truly grow, I need to be in the Honors College. But, ask not what your country can do for you, right? As a student in the Honors College, I would bring discipline, diversity, and passion into the program.…

As a student at a college preparatory high school, I have been prepared for everything a college honors program offers. My high school heavily placed value on the education of its students and giving back to our community. It has embedded these values into its students by making 100 hours of community service a requirement to graduate. It is because of this “law” that I participated in the Missouri A + program. By the end of this school year, I will have dedicated over 50 hours of my time specifically to tutoring and mentoring those around me.…

I’ve always known I was going to go to college. It seemed that the fact that my mother hadn’t even graduated high school, much less college, made my future plans inevitable – I needed to attend college.
