Of Mice And Men Justified Analysis

In the fictional novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George’s decision to kill Lennie at the end of the novella was justified. The reason this decision was even a possibility was because Lennie, a colossal, powerful, and simple minded man, committed a horrible crime. He accidentally killed Curley’s wife. A woman who has the “eye” for other men. She is, of course, married to Curley, who is a young, mean, and abusive man. He is the son of the boss, and pretty much has authority over the other men on the ranch. He is very insecure about his wife. He always thinks that somebody’s going to hit on her, and that she will leave him. So, in order to make sure this doesn’t happen, he tells her that she can’t speak to anybody on the farm. …show more content…
This relates to George killing Lennie in, Of Mice and Men, because if Curley had found Lennie before George did, he would have given him a slow and painful death. On page 119 of, Of Mice and Men, Curley said “I know who done it”...“That big son-of-a-bitch done it. I know he done it. Why- ever’body else was out there playin’ horseshoes”... “ I’m gonna get him. I’m going for my shotgun. I’ll kill the big son-of-a-bitch myself. I’ll shoot ‘im in the guts”. Based on this quote, readers can infer that Curley wasn’t going to give Lennie a nice and peaceful death ( George shot Lennie in the back of the head, while Curley would’ve shot Lennie in the guts. A shot to the gut would be very painful) unlike George’s intentions. The overall meaning of this is that George killed Lennie in the most humane way he could. Lennie was unaware of his imminent death. However, if Curley found Lennie, he would not only kill him, he’d mock him, and make his last few moments on Earth, hell. Another piece of evidence that proves that George’s decision was justified was in, Of Mice and

When Curley had found out that Lennie had killed his wife he had said that if he killed Lennie he would shoot him in the stomach to make him suffer, so it was better for George to shoot Lennie in the back of the head then have him get shot in the stomach by Curley and lie there dying slowly and painfully. Even though shooting Lennie in the head may have been cruel and it may not be right for someone to take someone else’s life, but on the other hand it was better for George to shoot Lennie in the head then have Curly shoot him in the stomach and pretty much torture him until he was dead because Curley seemed as if he didn’t care that Lennie killed his wife and he was just trying to get back at him for breaking his hand while they were…

Lennie’s side and kept him out of trouble, but when he accidentally kills Curley's wife, George does what is best for Lennie's sake. Steinbeck writes, “George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie's head…. He pulled the trigger.” Rather than having the other men from the ranch kill Lennie themselves, George finds it in his best interest to make sure Lennie goes out peacefully, happy, and knowing George is not mad. Morally, shooting someone is not right, but Steinbeck includes this to give readers an understanding of how much George cares for Lennie and why he would do what he did.…

In the short story, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George did the right thing by killing Lennie. If he hadn’t, who knows what kind of pain and torture Lennie would’ve been through. In the story, Lennie had murdered Curley’s wife by accident, they knew he had done it because of a quote provided by Slim, “I guess Lennie done it all right, Her necks bust. Lennie coulda did that.” Lennie had gotten angry at her for screaming when he was petting her hair and held onto her neck for too long.…

George knew he had to take Lennie's life himself or he would have a painful death, that was not something he wanted for Lennie. George taking Lennie's life was him stepping in and being the caretaker that he has to be for Lennie and protecting him from the other guys. Even though some people may say it’s wrong that George shot Lennie, he had to do it. George would have hated himself for letting them do it and Lennie suffering. One reason that George was justified for killing Lennie is because Lennie would have gotten himself into even more trouble and would have gotten himself killed somewhere else, and that is even if he made it out of the situation he was already in, which he would not have.…

This is a contrast and contradiction as you would expect George to try and help Lennie escape but instead decides to shoot him. I think this is kindness because George shoots Lennie in the back of the head which causes him no pain. The other guys probably would have caused him great pain as Curley said he was going to shoot him in the guts. This was hard for George but it was better for Lennie since he didn’t have to go through the pain and torture given by…

George the Culprit In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, a scene occurs where Lennie, unintentionally, kills Curley’s wife. George is the most responsible for the death of Curley’s Wife because he is Lennie’s caretaker and has conditioned Lennie to hide his actions. As Lennie’s caretaker, George should be watching him vigilantly and stop him from doing anything harmful to anything or anyone. George is responsible for Lennie’s actions because, by leaving Lennie, he allowed for a series of events to occur that led to Curley’s Wife’s death.…

From the quotes, Curley was furious that his wife died and he knows that it was Lennie did this so he really wants to kill him by himself and shot him in the guts but George told him not to shoot him because he does not know what was he doing because Lennie was dumb. George should have killed Lennie in the story “Of Mice and Men” because from the story the character “Lennie” was a troublemaker for George. He always brought troubles to George and he also has some problems with his mind so that made him act like a kid, always do thing after George and if Lennie is still alive he might hurt more people, even though they were best friend and George should not have killed Lennie because of that but someone else will kill him…
