George Washington, the first president, the father of our country, the toothless man, whatever you call him was an interesting man. In this we will cover his life his politics and his modern day influence. He is mostly known as the first president but he was also a gardener and a farmer in his home state of virginia. He was president when there were not political parties so he didn’t place sides. Unfortunately he died to epiglottitis a disease that inflames the epiglottis. However he has an interesting life.

George Washington was born in Popes Creek, Virginia, 1732. At a young age he studied to become a surveyor. During is youth he wished to join the royal navy but his mom wouldn’t let him. He later joined the British army. He served in the French and Indian war, but was proven unsuccessful. In his first battle however he killed hundreds of French troops.

After that battle he built a fort he called Fort Necessity. Fort Necessity was placed in an obvious and unprotected area, it was built in the middle of a clearing. The day after his attack the French retaliated and destroyed the fort, Washington was captured, however his life was spared and he was sent back

He was nominated as that because he was the only member of the Continental Congress with military experience. When he became the leader of the Continental Army he was given a group of ragtag patriots with no military training. The army had lost almost all their battles however they got volunteers from europe. These volunteers made all the difference, they trained thee Continental Army to match the British’s power. Even with the volunteers they still didn’t have any official support from other countries. He finally gained support from another country after the Battle of Saratoga, a major turning point in the war against Britain. He later won the war against England at the Battle of Yorktown.
