George Washington University Honors Program Essay

I would love the chance to attend The George Washington University and I believe my experience will benefit from the University Honors Program. College campuses, with thousands of students, seem daunting and frightening. But, with the Honors Program’s class sizes capped at twenty students, courses will mimic my high school’s, where the teachers know your name, your story, and usually, your family. I will not simply be a number in the professors’ eyes if accepted to the Honors Program. Also, the Honors residential community creates a place where people with the same academic dedication as I can live and bond. As an only child, the concept of sharing a room remains foreign, but having a roommate that prides herself on her education, just like I do, will ease the drastic change from home life to campus life. I want to look back on my college years and regard them as some of the best years of my life, where I made close friends, and I think the Honors Program will help me achieve this. Yes, I plan to major in Communications, but that does not mean I wish to spend every waking moment glued to my seat in these classes; I want to …show more content…
While my friends apply to colleges in the middle of nowhere, I broke off on to a different path, one that leads to political and social hubs. With Washington DC right at GW’s fingertips, it would be silly not to take advantage of what the city has to offer. The Honors Program utilizes the capital’s resources by hosting day trips into the city and the surrounding areas. Other colleges base their entire experiences off the mere acres of campus, but GW and the Honors Program use every aspect of campus and Washington to create a well-rounded collegiate

The Honors College at Auburn is designed to challenge the students that have showed academic excellence in their high school careers. The college should help students think more openly about the problems in today’s world, and lets face it, they are numerous. With the help of professors, the students in the Honors college should be able to pinpoint the source of a particular problem as well as the solution. I am not saying that the students will change the world with their way of thinking, but the students will be taught perspective. This type of thinking can only be mimicked in a challenging environment with people who are pushing each other to be better.…

With the smaller settings, there are less distractions and more individual attention which makes a difficult topic easier to comprehend. Also, I plan to take advantage of the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities since I have been accepted to the College of Engineering.…

I walked into my advanced placement United States history class believing that this class would be similar to the honors classes I took the prior year. I did not realize that the AP class I was walking into would require study habits and a work ethic that I had not quite developed at the time. I took my first quiz and received a failing grade because I was not properly prepared for it. This was the moment I understood that this was not just another class and being successful would require me to learn how to take notes, study, and work harder than I ever had in order to pass the test at the end of the year. Along the way my teacher gave us some tips and resources, but he purposely let us struggle.…
