Out of all forty-five Presidents that have served in the oval office, George Washington was the greatest and most effective leader. Washington employed leadership skills, such as motivation, driving the Colonists toward success, and displaying his authority, controlling his armies and the Colonists. Washington's control over the Colonists was partially due to authority, but mainly due to the fact that the Colonists respected Washington. Before becoming President, Washington served as the commander and chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, in which he steered the Colonial forces to victory over the oppressive British. In battle, Washington was an effective and resourceful leader, as he faced the tyranny of the British government.
