George Washington was a leader of the continental army and was also known for becoming the first president of the United States of America. He was born on February 22, 1734 and died on December 14, 1799. As he served as the general and commander in chief of the colonial armies during the American Revolution, he was doing so without any pay. By the time he returned home, he was practically bankrupt. These successes made George Washington unique in the way that they made him stick out from the crowd. One of his most significant successes was leading the U.S. into victory during the American Revolution. Establishing the United States Navy, George Washington also became the first President of the U.S. In 1799, George Washington's adventure tragically came to an end. He passed at age 67 due to a heart attack from pneumonia. Many mourned his death for he was a true hero and a sensational person. On December 18th, his funeral was finally held in Mount Vernon. In his honor, numerous sculptures and statues were made. Various places were also named in his honor, such as Fort Washington located in California. George Washington’s bravery allowed our country to thrive and triumph into victory. He was the key to our freedom from British rule in 1776. As the United States first president, George Washington put in phenomenal effort to make our nation prosper into success.
