George Lucas is one of the most successful, creative, and legendary movie directors of all time. Not only has he made movies with techniques that went beyond what the other directors were doing at the time, he made a movie trilogy that a large population of people can enjoy. His full name is George Walton Lucas Jr. He grew up in Modesto, California and was incredibly interested in drag racing. His dream, as a teen, was actually to become a professional racecar driver until he got into a terrible accident, which ended that dream. He then went to the University of Southern California Film School where he pursued his passion of movie making. Lucas started becoming so good at making movies, that Warner Brothers gave him a scholarship to oversee the making of one of his movies. Then, when Lucas got out of college, he made his own film making business called Lucas Films. With the company, Lucas made American Graffiti. Which became an incredible success and won a Golden Globe and five Academy Award Nominations (Varma). After this …show more content…
Although, this movie was turned down by many of the studios, because they thought it would be too risky and thought that the audience would not like it. However, Century Fox gave Lucas a chance and when Star Wars came out it broke all box office records and earned seven Academy Awards (Varma). Lucas went on to make five more Star Wars movies, which went more into the lives of Luke Skywalker and his friends, then into Anakin Skywalker's life who was Luke’s father. A new Star Wars movie is coming out, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, however Lucas was not the leading director involved in the movie, but Lucas Films was still a part of the movie making process. Lucas also worked closely with Stephen Spielberg to create the Indiana Jones saga, which also broke many box office records as well
