Bush abused the powers given to him by Article ll of the Constitution, with illegal torturing of foreigners as just one example. The article from the Atlantic very specifically goes in depth about the ways the powers of the President have expanded past their intended use, with the help of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton used the first words of the Article, “the executive powers should be vested in the President of the United States of America,” to push through the restraints on the President's power and attempt to create an, “elected monarch,” that would serve for life. His views were way outside the mainstream at the time and this was obviously never put into action. Hamilton also used the overall vagueness of the Article to prescribe powers to the President that were never clearly stated, and to turn the Presidency into something that it was never intended to
