Republican Party candidate and re-electionist President George W. Bush defeated Democratic Party candidate John Kerry, U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. Foreign policy was the theme of the election campaign, particularly Bush's conduct of the War on Terrorism and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. As in the 2000 presidential election, voting controversies emerged during and after the vote. The winner was not determined until Kerry decided not to dispute Bush's win in the state of Ohio. The state held enough electoral votes to determine the winner of the presidency. Both Kerry and Howard Dean have stated their opinion that voting in Ohio did not proceed fairly and that if it had the Democratic party might have won that state and the election. However, there was far less controversy about this election than in 2000, Kerry won Minnesota. However one Elector cast a vote for Democrat Vice-President candidate John Edwards. This ballot also voted for John Edwards as Vice-President. In the 2oo4 election Bush and Kerry each received more votes than any candidates in history and the Issues of the Day during this event were terrorism, Iraq War, and job

He fits this archetype well because throughout the whole book he helps Lennie and kinda tries to lead him to the right path. He watches over Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble. There were many major policy elements of the war on terror in the wake of September 11, 2001. Before George W. Bush had become president, he was the governor of Texas. Bush promoted “compassionate conservatism” and tried to dissociate the anti-immigrant rhetoric of the 1990 's from the Republican Party. Bush quickly began implementing a conservative agenda after his narrow margin of victory. In 2001, Bush pressed Congress to pass the largest tax cut in U.S. history.…

Although the electoral college was a compromise between election of the president by a popular vote of "qualified citizens", The termination of the electoral college has been the topic of discussion for quite a few decades.
