Not so long ago, “Location services company Navizon says that ITS can provide accurate tracking of Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops, anywhere inside a building or throughout a campus,” (DesMarais, PCWorld). This came from a website that published this article six years ago, so it is not recent. But, if we had tracking devices that gave startlingly accurate data via Wi-Fi-hotspots in the year 2012, possibly sooner, how far has technology advanced to today’s standards? Moreover, how much more access does the government have now besides the perk of being able to track, to an extant, anyone? A company names Skyhook created the software used to track Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The CEO of the company, Ted Morgan, states, “[. . .] if Skyhook sees that a device shows up at Wrigley Field four times in a season, it assumes that the person using the laptop is a sports fan.
