Overall the people i read about on world war two was as tragic as the situation Winston went through in the book. When the people in world war two were being picked on and and when the suffering started, they start to not have enough energy to fight for what they love and just hate the fact of it. It is logical that know one would like to be tortured, and would not like to live in such an economy or life style that way either. That is why how Winston the protagonist had turned on his ex lover Juliet, because his biggest fears was rats and they were going to eat his face alive and he got to his breaking point and just said “kill Juliet do whatever you want just do it to her.”
First i believe society would start to fall apart and reach its breaking point just like in the book 1984, how everyone in the sail started to blame others for statements just so that they could live. After all the part of the suffering is not only torture, but starvation and to also be emotionally abused. In today’s society people would try and fight through the pain, but personally I do not think i could live like I that because I hate being in pain.
