Dystopian Society In The Book 1984 And The Movie Divergent

Horrible Government The book 1984 by George Orwell and the movie Divergent by are a great example of a dystopian society. A dystopian society is not the kind of place you dream of in a fairy tale. Dystopias are horrible places where there is a leader who tries to control their people with force and mind games. The definition of a dystopian society is an imaginary place where people are unhappy and usually afraid, because they are not treated fairly (Merriam-Webster). 1984 and Divergent are two very different pieces of work, but are still connected by one common theme. In the book, the citizens of Oceania are separated into three sections of people. The classes of people from the least to the most important are the Proles, Outer Party, and the Inner Party. The Inner Party is the highest group of people in Oceania.The Inner Party is often called Big Brother, or even just The Party. The Proles are the people that are not required by the Inner Party to have telescreens or follow any of their roles. The Outer Party is what we call nowadays the middle class. The Outer Party has to follow very strict rules made by the Inner Party. The Outer Party is forced to have jobs at one of the government buildings. If the people of the Outer Party even think one thing about disobeying in their minds, a group called the Thought Police will taken them to the Ministry of Love. Here they will make them obey the laws. The government in the book 1984 is very controlling and makes the people of Oceania fear for their lives everyday. In the movie and the book Divergent their government has divided its people into five groups, or factions as they are known in the book and movie. The five factions are Dauntless, Amity, Erudite, Abnegation, and Candor. Dauntless is the faction for all the people who are brave and like to do dangerous things. Amity is the group of people who are very kind and do not like to have conflict. Erudite are the people who like to inform others of the truth. Abnegation is the faction that the main character Beatrice/Tris was born into. Abnegation is the faction that helps people before thinking of themselves. The last of the five factions is Candor. Candor is the faction of people that feel the need to say anything and everything that comes to their minds. People in Candor do not like to lie and they are always
