The Government is in Control
George Orwell was a political writer prominent in the post World War II era, who opposed the rise of totalitarian states. In the novel 1984, he created an imaginary society where the people are stripped of their humanity. The story takes place in a fictional country called Oceania, where the ruling Party and its leader, Big Brother, seek absolute power over its people. To achieve this, they apply physical and mental restrictions, surveillance, propaganda, and shame of language to gain control of the people 's minds. I know you wonder if our government is controlling to help us, or if they are controlling just to be in control. Orwell makes tons of claims that they just want to be in control. I agree with his claims. I agree with his claims for many reasons, including: You ask how valid is the slogan, "Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past," in relation to your understanding of the world? Today, I will tell you the answer to that question. The slogan is very valid.
Orwell wanted to let the world know the truth, he stated himself, “I write it because there is some lie that I want to expose” (“Why Orwell Wrote ‘1984”). When he saw the “Big Brother” control of history in 1948, he decided to title the book 1984. He worked for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), and the “Ministry of Truth is modeled to some extent on BBC” (Bennett). This shows you that the world today relates to the slogan. In…
