And I think that Orwell chose the pigs to be the leaders because people don’t usually associate pigs with very pleasant things and Stalin isn't really a pleasant thought for most people. While napoleon represented Stalin, Snowball represented Trotsky who was a big leader in the Revolution but got taken out of power by Stalin. In the book snowball was chased off the farm by Napoleon’s guard dogs. Some of people who the characters represent are a little harder to figure out, like Squealer who did all the campaigning and talking for Napoleon. He most likely represents Dmitri Shepilov who was Stalin’s propaganda designer and organizer.
