George Orwell Use Of Animals In Animal Farm

George Orwell utilized animals as his form of people in the book Animal Farm. There were horses, dogs, birds, chickens, and pigs. The one horse I really remember from the book was Boxer who was extremely hard working, pretty easy to manipulate and overall a lovable character. Then there are the dogs which at first were innocent puppies but were later turned to heel biting dogs. The main bird in this story is Moses and all he did was talk about sugar mountain which is a place above the clouds. The chickens are really only good for laying eggs (the hens) and crowing (roosters). And then there are the pigs who turned into the leaders and eventually used the dogs as soldiers, slaughtered the chickens and turned into the humans that they kicked out as leaders in the first place. The characters in the book match up with people of Stalin's party. And I think that Orwell chose the pigs to be the leaders because people don’t usually associate pigs with very pleasant things and Stalin isn't really a pleasant thought for most people. While napoleon represented Stalin, Snowball represented Trotsky who was a big leader in the Revolution but got taken out of power by Stalin. In the book snowball was chased off the farm by Napoleon’s guard dogs. Some of people who the characters represent are a little harder to figure out, like Squealer who did all the campaigning and talking for Napoleon. He most likely represents Dmitri Shepilov who was Stalin’s propaganda designer and organizer. Most of the other animals don’t represent any leaders but the people who were manipulated into thinking that their leader was only looking out for their own good. Which was not the
