To show how much of a dystopic society Oceania is, Oceania was the North Korea of 1984. That’s right! George Orwell created dystopic North Korea in his book 1984 before it was created in the real world during North Korea’s current ruler reign. One of the most obvious comparisons is the promoted hate of another nation. 1984’s Oceania had a huge hate of enemy Goldstein. North Korea obviously hates America. “The dark-haired girl behind Winston had begun crying out ‘Swine! Swine! Swine!’ and suddenly she picked up a heavy Newspeak dictionary and flung it at the screen. It struck Goldstein’s nose and bounced of…” ( pg 18 chapter 3 part 1). We all know that North Korea is a major dystopia. And the hate of Goldstein is almost the same of America. Lastly, like North Korea, Oceania has one leader and a party close to the leader to rule. Big Brother would be the Korean leader. Today, North Korea has a huge problem of poverty and famine, thanks to the leader not helping his people. And it seems Orwell predicted correctly of his dystopia, as one like it appeared. Oceania and North Korea are very alike.
