George R.R. Martin George Raymond Richard Martin, born as George Raymond Marin (September 20, 1948) is an American novelist writer in the fantasy, horror and science fiction. He sold his first short story, "The Hero," to Galaxy, a science fiction magazine, which was published in 1971. He published nine novels, ten short story collections, and one children's book. From all of his good work one of his best known is the Song of Ice and Fire series. On 2015 he won the Emmy Award for the outstanding Drama series known as Game Of Thrones after being nominated six times. George Martin grew up in Bayonne, New Jersey. Martin started writing in elementary school. He sold monster stories to other kids in his working-class neighborhood. Martin attended Northwestern University and graduated with bachelor’s in 1970 and master’s degrees in 1971 in journalism. On September 20, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey in projects Raymond C. Martin began writing stories in elementary school. He sold monster stories to other kids in his class and neighborhood. After his middle and elementary years he went to Marist High School which was a catholic school. During his high school years, he started writing fan fiction based on the comic books he adored and began making new superheroes as well ("George R. R. Martin”). During his Sophomore and Junior year he wrote and edited for the school paper, until getting thrown off early senior year in a censorship dispute. After that he captained the school's chess team.
